Why plus sizes are killing Jfashion

Hi cuties!

Today I wanted to take a little time and write out something I've been thinking about recently, and that is- why Jfashion is being killed at the hands of size inclusion. Buckle up, this might be a spicy take.

As you lovely readers are probably aware, ACDC Rag dropped another amazing plus sized series awhile back. I LOVE IT! And just a few months ago, Liz Lisa added a slightly larger size, which is awesome!! I hope they continue to release more size inclusive items!

Comments on social media are what inspired me to write this.

Hopefully it won't be too wordy (but if you know me, I do love to yap!)

So lets jump into it.

Gyaru

Himekaji

Tenshi Kaiwai

Jirai Kei

Punk

Decora

AND SO MUCH MORE

So many different styles for EVERYONE to enjoy, right??

I wish that were the case, but far too few brands carry accessible sizes. And I'm not even talking about "plus" sizes, I mean what most of the west would consider standard to mid-sizing. The difference between some Japanese brands' XS/S/M is nearly non-existent. It isn't simply a sizing issue, either, it's a perspective problem. Only shining a glowing spotlight on very thin girls. They are stunning, don't get me wrong, but they're not the only type of people who wear jfashion. As a matter of fact, they're probably the minority of jfashion enjoyers at this point.

These brands refusing to loosen up and offer larger sizes are killing their own brand.

And that's just how business works.

If you don't accommodate to consumers, you miss sales. You miss sales, you lose money. No money, no more business. Bye bye.

It's not hard to look at where jfashion is today and realize that these brands are already falling behind due to more affordable options and fast fashion. (alot of these brands ARE fast fashion, but that's a blog for another time...) The consumer will most likely be forced into a less sustainable option due to a lack of sizing choices from the popular brands, outside a select few.

The population is growing, and obviously I am not talking birth rates here.

People are getting larger, around and tall, and there are sooo many different body types. If you do not make accommodations to your brand, you cannot be surprised when you become outdated. You need to know your demographic along with your potential demographic. The goal is to turn potential consumers into buyers. Show the world that your brand was not left behind, that you are still relevant.

Otherwise, enjoy dusting off the racks of clothes you can't sell.

I often find that small brands offer mid to plus size options more often than big brands do.

For reference, I am not taking a jab at brands that are a small team and don't have the resources, I am talking about brands that are huge, but falling behind because the only people who can wear their clothes is becoming less and less.

I am an American M-L and I fit TONS of FREE SIZE clothes (when they have the stretchy backing, mostly.) I think that's totally fair and understandable. But some brands have me in a XXXL... WHY?

I won't even dip my toe into the problematic eating disorder culture that this fashion produces in this blog, that's already been screamed about by thousands since the 90s...

I fear we're moving backwards in the Jfashion space within Japan, while places like China, and the US are seeing a huge BOOM in their Kawaii and GAL clothes because they offer more accessible sizing with the same, if not sometimes even better, quality. Plus, the prices are quite a bit more affordable.

Overconsumption is a hot topic, but we can't deny that it's a problem in the Jfashion world. We should be encouraging people to shop sustainably. We wouldn't have to push so many people to a less sustainable option if it wasn't their ONLY option.

So many people have to compromise their ethics just to express themselves, is that not heartbreaking?

And that's where I'll leave today's blog.

Thank you SOOOO much for reading! I hope you were able to understand the ramblings of my brain :P

Anyway, I have to go so I can make it to the Cutie Patootie awards, rumor has it you're a shoo-in for first place!!

Yours cutely,

I roast YOUR fashion opinions!

 Hi cuties!!

Happy to see you here! I hope you're having a great holiday season!

If you follow my Instagram (@Sweet.Pookie.Pie), you know I asked everyone to submit their fashion hot takes. Well, here I am today, about to tear you all apart! MUAHAHAHA (evil laugh hehe)

Sooo lets begin, shall we?

  • Pink is too dull in modern jfashion
I have to admit, I completely agree with this one!
I do think the bright pinks from the Y2K and balletcore are making a difference, though! This winter has had wayy brighter and better pinks, in my personal opinion.

Just look at Liz Lisa's 2010s era pinks compared to 2020s era, and you notice that all the bright pink is totally gone! I miss color!! Shopping at the 109 is low key so boring anymore because everyone is using dull pink, white, ivory, and black. Let's bring back COLORRRRRRR!!!!! But honestly its more just than that... many jfashion brands are serving corporate color schemes with a lack of personality and happiness. I mean just look at the promo pics from the 2010s vs the 2020s. There was a shift away from fun and whimsy to dreary and flat. I think they're both nice, and I have clothes from both eras, but I think it's time we bring back a little whimsy!

  • Jirai Kei is just emo but for Jfashion
Again, I can't say that I fully disagree, especially knowing the whole lifestyle people imagine when they picture both of these styles. However, it's very clear that Jirai Kei  is a feminine leaning style, whereas Emo is kind of seen as both fem and masc. I think this is important to recognize because fashion comes from culture, so seeing Jirai Kei  and Emo as exactly the same can potentially dismiss the context they both stem from. Because let's also not forget that Jirai Kei  as a mainstream style stems from women taking control of a sexist narrative. We can't forget where fashion comes from, or we forget the history that formed it. (not to mention all the ACTUAL styling differences!!!)

  • Many people don't really know how to style clothing items, they just sort of copy paste the way they're styled online or in store.
I could not agree more!! SOOOOOO many people I have known who are labeled as "stylish" absolutely do not understand how to style. They see a top with one pair of pants, and they ONLY wear them together, never branching out or changing it up. I think that's fine, of course, but it is super common. I mostly see men doing this, but I also notice it occasionally in fem spaces too. Mostly with people who follow fads. I wonder if this stems from the fear of standing out? Perhaps the ease of not having to stress about styling? Or maybe just an enjoyment of how it looks already styled. I would never be the type to say that this is "wrong", because fashion is never "wrong", its always an expression of self. I think it's okay, but I am always shocked when those people are labeled as extremely stylish. I think they look good and well styled, don't get me wrong, but "stylish" implies the ability to style items in different ways, not just looking good in one style.

  • Gyaru is SUPPOSED to be sexy
Okay here's an opinion I can roast now! Gyaru is more than one size fits all, so to make a blanket statement like this, I already know that you don't truly know what Gyaru is.
MANY Gyaru styles are absolutely sexy and is a way to express your sexuality and more risquΓ© side. HOWEVER, Gyaru as a whole is not "supposed" to anything. Gyaru is mind, and Gyaru was created by specifically avoiding the "supposed to" mindset. It is simply an expression of yourself, and a pushback against many beauty standards.

  • Jfashion influencers are mean irl
Okay I will be so honest, I know a few of them, and I only have good things to say about all the ones I met personally. However, recently, I did have a run in with a creator, and it was extremely unpleasant.
STORY TIME!! I had just started Content Cuties (a community for fem content creators based in Japan ((If you wanna join, send me a DM on Insta!))) And got a DM from an up-and-coming influencer. The DM stated she was interested in my group, so I sent her the rules, which state that self promo is absolutely encouraged! She said that self promo in a community should be "limited to people with 5k or more followers", I disagreed and told her that even I, the creator of the group, had less than 1k, and also that would defeat the purpose of a small creator section of the community. She said it was "unacceptable" for me to create a creator's group when I such a small following myself, and that I should make her an admin so she could "fix it." I laughed about that and she blocked me. So for her, yeah, I think she's mean. But for the rest? They have all been so nice and lovely to me! I have made friends with many of them and they're all very kind! (No, I will not be sharing her name, so please do not ask, but if she follows someone I know, I will warn them of her behavior.)

  • I think Japan has the best fashion sense
OOF. Okay where to start... Japan, in my opinion, absolutely has one of the best alt fashions scenes, even now. They created so many iconic styles and cultivated devoted fashion communities... however, not everyone is wearing that every day. Most daily fashion here reminds me of Mormons... And you know what, I think I will just leave that as that...
But I will add, that in the good year of 2025 I personally find myself inclined to say China's alt fashion scene is the best at the moment. But that's just my opinion!

I think that's enough for this post!! I have a few more of your opinions I plan to react to, but maybe next time I will try a video format! LMK if you prefer the blog style or would like to see a video version as well!

If you have any fashion opinions, leave them in the comments, or DM me on Insta, and I'll react to them!!

Anyway, I gotta go, I'm about to be late for the Silly Goose meeting, I'll see you there!!

Yours Cutely,
Pookie

What's HOT and what's NOT? (Dec. 2025)

 Hi Cuties!!

We meet again! It's always so nice to see you <3

Today let's talk about what's hot, and what's not!

Starting off with the general review of trends as of now (Dec. 2025)-

  • Y2K is still gaining popularity!
  • Bimbocore is slowly being absorbed by the Y2K revival.
  • Himegyaru is being seen more often on the streets of Japan, and alot more on the western internet spaces!
  • Jirai Kei is still going strong irl, with only a slight decline in online spaces.
  • Tenshi Kaiwai popularity is growing online, but still not seen as much on the daily irl.
  • Heisei Gyaru is still in its boom! Unavoidable on all online jfashion spaces, we love this for her!!
  • Visual Kei is having a slow rise again, I do have hopes of its full swing return in late 2026.
  • Sweet Lolita is seen a bit less these days compared to classic lolita, but this happens pretty regularly around Christmas.
  • Ryosangata is still fighting for its life to be seperated from JiraKei. You keep fighting girl! I BELIEVE IN YOU!
  • Coquette is getting all the creddit for Himekaji, which is sad to me, a Himekaji enjoyer.
  • Ballet core is coming in HOT, I feel this is due to the ballet shoe trend that started earlier this year.
  • EMO IS BACK?? Uhhhh, DUH! Yeah, she has made her return!
  • Scene has kind of been lost to time, being absorbed into the Emo niche.
  • GOTH is ALWAYS in. Period. I dont make the rules. There is a Goth resurgence in the mainstream this month, thanks to the Goths With Santa trend returning again this holiday season!
  • Cleangirl is dying, RIP, I can't say I'm particularly saddened by this, but I know some of you will be 😒
  • Basic Autumn Girl was a great vibe this year! It's always so fun when the girlies are enjoying the season!

I am sooo sure I have forgotten some but thats i can think if at the moment!

Time for whats HOT!!

Specific hot items-

  • Chocolate themed lolita coords
  • Fawn themed everything! hoods, leg\arm warmers, bags, any and everything!
  • Ballet themed shoes
  • Skirts over pants is back for sure
  • Tripp pants are trending again
  • Holister long sleeves for layering!
  • Buying from small brands!

Time for whats NOT hot!!
  • Judging what others are wearing.
  • Absolutely nothing is considered "out" anymore, get with the times!
  • You can wear whatever makes you HAPPY!
  • Choose your fits by how much you enjoy them, not by how much you think everyone else will!
  • That one brand in Shibuya 109 that allowed their staff to humiliate and fat shame customers and then tried to blame the customers before issuing a halfassed apology that now everyone seems to have forgotten. oops :) IYKYK

Anyway, that's all my yapping for today!
Thank you so much for reading and sharing my blog!!

Pookie

Why I Gave up

 Hi cuties!

Thank you so much for reading my blog today! It means alot to me!

I hope each and every one of you are doing well!

Today I was thinking, maybe a bit too much, and I realized that alot of you only know me as Pookie. The kawaii fashion amateur model influencer wannabe! But the other part of you knew me once as Blep. A full time streamer who mostly just yapped, even though a game screen was pulled up hehehe.

I don’t think I ever really explained why I stopped streaming or why it seems like I've changed so much in the past two years, so I figured I would just write it here!

Soooo long story slightly less long but I'm a yapper so I guess we'll see-

I burned myself out so bad. I was streaming daily at one point, and catering to American time zones which meant I didn't get off stream until well after midnight, and when I started my current job it was hard to keep up with.

I started skipping streams so I could sleep at a reasonable time, and also had to deal with my chrinic illnesses on top of it all. I skipped a day, week, then a month, then three months, and at that point I didn't really know how to return.

It all felt like too much. and during all of this I lost friends, and alot of my streaming buddies got wrapped up in their own lives so I was kind of alone, I dealt with alot of behind the scenes drama and finally I decided it was too overwhelming.

I just needed a break.

But while I was feeling overwhelmed and defeated, I found myself.

I finally started wearing my cute fashion out and about. I felt like I was more free to express myself and be who I wanted to be.

I started making friends in these spaces by simply sharing my passions with others. I started to really find what made me feel like myself.

And then I got the call that I was invited to Tokyo for a fan design event. That day was one of the very best of my life. I knew right then that I was being my authentic self and I was so happy with who I had become. I enjoyed it so much I even cried that evening, proud of myself for finally being ME.

I then visited my hometown for the first time in 5 years and I felt like I shined even brighter with the support of my loved ones. I knew if I returned to streaming it wouldn't be the same, and I was so scared of dissapointing everyone. I worked hard, streamed for many years and made a community I loved so deeply. But now, I worry if I returned to playing games and yapping, the community I built would feel like I was a fraud. and in a way, maybe I was.

I think about streaming frequently. I miss it. But I worry no one will want to hear about my fashion interests. I fear that returning to streaming would be me returning without a mask, my true self online for anyone and everyone to judge. It feels like im naked in front of the whole world! A return would be me having to sit down and face myself again and thats hard to do.

I know my community wasnt huge, only a few hundered, but that was more than I ever could have imagined before! I cared about every single person who joined and you were all supporting me! I became friends with most of you, You were more than viewers, or chat, or other streamers, you were people I wanted to support and people who gave that same energy back.

I dont have excuses or a real reason after all. Its all just fear. And I know I can do things, even when I'm scared.

I have been toying with the idea of streaming again, even if I know some people might feel like I have changed too much. I just miss it. I miss having the community and socializing with you all.

I dont go by Blep anymore, but Blep is still me. Pookie is a more personal nickname, as its been what my family has called me since i was a baby. I chose Blep as a name to hide myself.

(Blep name backstory)

It was 2016 and Love Nikki Dress Up just released on the App store and i was just gifted my very first (used) Iphone (Thank you Mands! You are so awesome for that!) I didnt want anyone to know that I was in my 20s playing a dress-up game, so I gave myself the name Blep as a way to stay hidden online. I chose Blep because my cats tongue was blepping and it was so cute!

I went by Blep on twitch for similer reasons, I wanted to be semi-annonomuys. But eventually my streaming became something I loved and wanted to share with everyone so the line between Blep and Pookie began to blur.. Eventually I decided that Blep served their purpouses, and kept me safe and hidden away long enough. It was Pookies time! and maybe one day Pookie will vanish and a year later return under a new name... and if that happens, I hope that you, dear reader, will hear me out again, and extend your understanding to me once more.

Thank you for reading, I hope you all have wonderful holidays!!

Yours cutely,

-Pookie

HI CUTIES!!!!   Thank you for reading my blog!! I am very thankful!  By the time you read this, I'm going to be in the sky, on my way to...
